The topology of a Blockchain network is based on a peer-to-peer network (P2P). All participants are equally interlinked without a central point of control. There is no hierarchy and every client is connected to serval other clients. The participants can share functions, services and data with each other in a peer-to-peer network.

The data in the Blockchain is also stored on a distributed ledger and this ledger is replicated to all nodes. This means that each participant can validate new blocks removing the need for central control [1]. Another advantage of using peer-to-peer networks is that without a central intermediary no transaction-fees are charged [2]. Additionally, it is less susceptible to total failure and cybercrime.
